Shoulder pain may come from the shoulder itself or be influenced by the neck, upper back, posture, and surrounding muscles. JP Chiropractic provides a careful evaluation to identify the movements and structures most related to your symptoms.
Your treatment plan may combine chiropractic adjustments, mobility work, myofascial techniques, dry needling when appropriate, and exercises that restore control and strength. We tailor care to your diagnosis, goals, and tolerance.
No two patients are exactly alike. Dr. Jason Pero and Dr. Chris Cole take time to listen, explain the examination findings, and recommend a practical plan built around your goals. Our office is located at 1012 Physicians Dr, Suite 102, Charleston, SC 29414.
Shoulder pain is easier to discuss when you can connect it to specific tasks. Tell your doctor whether reaching overhead, putting on a jacket, fastening a seat belt, lifting a child or sleeping on the affected side is difficult. Note whether the discomfort stays around the shoulder or travels toward the neck, arm or hand.
Also describe when the problem began and whether it followed an injury, a new exercise routine or repeated work activity. A sudden loss of function and a gradual increase in stiffness are different histories. Neither should be assigned a diagnosis from the location of pain alone.
Bring details of earlier shoulder injuries, dislocations, surgery, injections or rehabilitation. Existing X-ray, ultrasound or MRI reports may be helpful; let the office know what information you already have. Your chiropractor can discuss whether those records answer the current question or whether another evaluation is more appropriate.
Wear clothing that permits comfortable shoulder movement. Tell us about pain with particular positions before the examination begins, and mention any numbness, weakness or changes in grip. You can ask for an explanation of each test and stop a movement that feels intolerable. Your comfort and participation matter throughout the visit.
Shoulder care may include chiropractic adjustments to appropriate extremity joints, kinesiotaping, dry needling for relevant muscle findings and recommended exercises. The approach depends on the shoulder examination and your health history. Your doctor can explain the purpose of each recommendation and whether X-rays are needed to investigate the problem before proceeding.
The purpose of an evaluation is to decide what can reasonably be addressed in this office and what may need a different provider. Recommendations should explain the role of joint movement, muscle function and the demands of your usual activities without assuming that every shoulder problem starts in the spine.
If conservative care is recommended, ask how hands-on treatment and any exercises relate to your goals. Useful goals might include reaching a shelf, returning to a modified workout or sleeping more comfortably. Progress is assessed through changes in function as well as symptoms, and the plan should be reconsidered when it is not helping.
Tell your clinician how the shoulder responds between visits, including which activities are easier and which still cause difficulty. Avoid adding aggressive stretching or a new strengthening routine without discussing whether it suits your examination findings. Your activity plan should reflect your current capacity and any existing medical restrictions.
Severe shoulder pain after trauma, a visible deformity or sudden major weakness needs prompt medical attention. Shoulder discomfort with chest pain, shortness of breath or other emergency symptoms requires emergency evaluation.
